Despite the crisis: Volkswagen dominates the market
The domestic new car market is still heavily in the red, but the Volkswagen Group brands dominate as usual.

Despite the crisis: Volkswagen dominates the market
"The domestic car market is still in reverse gear. Realistically speaking, it will only be back in a healthy mode in one to two years - assuming that, in addition to the limited supply, inflation and the threat of an economic downturn can also be brought under control and the economy is stimulated," says Hans Peter Schützinger, spokesman for the management of Porsche Holding Salzburg.
The numbers in detail:
From January to June 2022, 108,606 cars were newly registered in Austria. That is 19.2 percent less than in the comparable period of 2021 (134,396 units).
The market share of the Volkswagen Group brands is 37.9 percent, slightly below the market share at the same time last year (39.7 percent).
MA Kaiser is still the VW brand with 14.0 percent, followed by Skoda with 8.7 percent. BMW follows in third place with 7.1 percent.
Exciting: The new model registration leader is, somewhat surprisingly, the VW Bus with 2,414 units by the end of June 2022, closely followed by the Skoda Fabia with 2,119 units. The first VW Group follower is the Dacia Sandero with 1,968 units in third place in the new registration statistics.
