Sono Sion impresses in Hollywood
Sono Motors has successfully introduced its Sion, the world's first affordable Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV), in the USA. Hundreds of visitors, including Whoopi Goldberg, show great interest in affordable solar mobility after taking rides. The tour included a stop in Times Square in New York City and the ringing of the Nasdaq “Closing Bell”. Sono Motors is celebrating its almost one-year anniversary as a Nasdaq-listed company. The aim of the tour was to introduce Americans to the concept of solar mobility with the Sion, as well as to generate interest and enthusiasm for the company's potential future expansion into the USA. Sono Motors met private individuals, corporate and media representatives in New York, Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles and offered several hundred visitors - including Emmy and Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg - the opportunity to ride in the vehicle.
The Sion is a five-seat solar electric car that is expected to be available in Europe for around €25,000 net ($25,000). It has the potential to be the world's first low-cost SEV when it enters production; which is currently planned for the second half of 2023. As of today, Sono Motors has over 20,000 paid reservations from private individuals and over 22,000 B2B pre-orders for the Sion. Sono Motors plans to produce the Sion together with contract manufacturer Valmet Automotive in Finland. Around 257,000 vehicles are expected to roll off the production line there within seven years.
