"Negotiations with potential investors are still ongoing, and we are confident that we will achieve our goal and be able to continue the Sion program. All we need is one final push, even more thought leaders who raise their voices and fight together for this change," says Laurin Hahn, CEO and co-founder of Sono Motors. The solar mobility company wants to use the money collected to start pre-series production this summer. The Sion also stopped off in Vienna on its roadshow this week. Numerous e-mobility enthusiasts took the opportunity to touch the solar vehicle, which is unique thanks to its solar panels integrated into the entire body, to sit in it and chat with the developers present.
“There are now other electric cars with solar panels, but the Sion is the only one that can also soak up the sun on its sides,” explains Christian Hornschuch, team leader for solar power electronics and product development manager at Sono Motors. “We received approval because we embedded the solar panels in plastic and not mounted them behind glass like other competitors,” says Hornschuch. Sono Motors recently tested the Sion's solar charging behavior under real-world conditions in December. Conclusion: Even in the month with the least daylight, the car theoretically achieves 28 km of pure solar range per week. On an annual average, this value is 112 kilometers per week, which can only be covered with solar power. The annual solar range of the Sion in Europe is therefore an average of 5,800 km.
