As part of the trade exhibition, Schaeffler attached great importance to an open exchange. "As a company on the way to becoming the leading motion technology company, it is important to bring our drive expertise to industry events such as the engine congress and to enter into technical discussions with proven experts about the optimization potential in the conventional drive train. At the same time, we are pushing electric mobility with full force," said Matthias Zink, board member of the Powertrain & Chassis division of Schaeffler AG. With a keynote speech in the main program, he provided important industry impetus in his role as President of the European Suppliers Association (Clepa). An expert lecture from Schaeffler also discussed innovative charge-switching technologies and the optimization potential of heavy-duty engines in hydrogen combustion engines. At the trade exhibition, Schaeffler presented innovations in the area of engine development, aimed at different drive technologies for cars, the heavy-duty sector and 2-wheeler solutions. Damper solutions celebrated a premiere with a torsional vibration damper, which is innovatively installed in the crankshaft housing.
Achieving climate goals
“Our portfolio is designed to meet the needs and requirements of our customers and therefore includes, in addition to a wide range of solutions for the growing electromobility – battery-electric and fuel cell – also hybrid drives and technology for consumption-optimized combustion engines,” explained Matthias Zink. "We are convinced that Schaeffler's broad technological positioning in the powertrain is essential for successfully reducing CO2 emissions in mobility. Every gram of CO2 less counts." However, this path requires a stable political framework: “We need a realistic step-by-step plan from the EU Commission for efficient decarbonization in the mobility sector,” said Zink. At the International Engine Congress 2025, the focus was on the technical potential of the combustion engine for CO2-neutral mobility. The congress was organized by the VDI Wissenforum and ATZlive.
