If it works, it works. And things went simply fantastic at Porsche in 2021. For the first time in history, the sports car manufacturer was able to deliver 301,915 vehicles to customers, thereby breaking the magical 300,000 barrier.
If that wasn't enough, sales last year were 33.1 billion euros (+ 4.4 billion compared to 2020). The operating result is 5.3 billion euros (+ 1.1 billion compared to the previous year). This means that the Stuttgart-based company's operating return on sales is 16 percent - and significantly higher than the previous year, where it was "only" 14.6 percent. The net cash flow also grew from 2.2 (2020) to 3.7 billion euros.
The sales figures are surprising: The best-selling Porsche in 2021 was the Marcan with 88,362 units, followed by the Cayenne with 83,071 units. The all-electric Taycan luxury sports car was delivered to customers 41,296 times, even eclipsing the iconic 911, of which 38,464 units were sold.
“There are economically and politically challenging months ahead of us, but we are sticking to our strategic goal, which has been firmly anchored for years, of ensuring a long-term operating return on sales of at least 15 percent,” emphasizes CFO Lutz Meschke. "Our task force has already taken initial measures to secure our results. In doing so, we want to ensure that we can continue to meet our high earnings expectations.
Last year, almost 40 percent of all new Porsche vehicles delivered in Europe were electrified - i.e. plug-in hybrids or fully electric models. Porsche had also announced that it would reduce CO in its balance sheet in 20302-to want to operate neutrally. “In 2025, half of all newly sold Porsches should be electrified – i.e. fully electric or plug-in hybrid,” announces Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG. “In 2030, the proportion of all new vehicles with a fully electric drive should be more than 80 percent.” Interesting: By the middle of the decade, Porsche would like to offer the 718 mid-sized sports car exclusively as fully electric.
