New entry in the A segment

Golf, Tiguan, Polo and T-Roc are the most popular VW models in Austria. The most sought-after segment remains the compact car class (A segment), which includes the Tiguan and now also the new Tayron. Around 46% of new car buyers chose a vehicle from this segment in 2024. SUVs account for 41.2% of this, followed by classic compact cars (sedans and hatchbacks) with 30%, station wagons with 14.6%, CUVs / MPVs with 9%, coupes, convertibles and roadsters with a total of 2.3% and buses with 2.9%. Since 2017, the spacious Tiguan Allspace has strengthened the Tiguan. His successor is now the almost 4.8 m long Tayron. The all-rounder offers five to seven seats, a spacious rear, a huge trunk and a high towing capacity of up to 2.5 tons, which was previously only offered by SUVs such as the Touareg or Audi Q7. The front of the Taron features LED headlights and the illuminated VW logo, while at the rear there is a continuous LED crossbar with the illuminated VW logo. With top-class features, numerous assistance systems and a high-quality appearance, the Tayron aims to appeal to families as well as fleet customers.

Inner values

Richard Gollatsch, technology and product trainer for VW at Porsche Holding, is convinced of the success of the Tayron. “The car is full of comfort and wellness features such as massage seats for the driver and front passenger – no Asian manufacturer can compete in this price range.” The technical equipment also leaves little to be desired. The Tayron is offered as a petrol engine, diesel engine, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid, with the petrol engine and diesel engine also being available with 4Motion all-wheel drive. Gollatsch points to the Cd value of 0.28, which is a record low for the class, as well as the standard warranty extension in Austria to 5 years with a maximum total mileage of 100,000 km. In addition, the previous annual service intervals for the hybrid version have been extended to two years and a maximum of 30,000 kilometers; updates to the comfort functions are carried out “over the air”. Richard Gollatsch assures: "VW has equipped the Tayron with the latest reliable software. Problems that previously occurred with other models are finally a thing of the past."
