Magna builds hybrid drive

As part of comprehensive electrification strategies, hybrid solutions are becoming increasingly important among OEMs worldwide. In this dynamic environment, Magna was able to secure the first order for its Dedicated Hybrid Drive (DHD) Duo system with a leading Chinese OEM. Magna's DHD Duo two-electric motor concept offers a longitudinally oriented front-wheel drive with an innovative multi-speed design. The powerful 800-volt system ensures a comfortable driving experience in all driving conditions. “Our DHD Duo represents our deep commitment to creating exceptional yet environmentally friendly driving experiences,” said Diba Ilunga, President Magna Powertrain. “This hybrid solution combines efficiency and versatility to meet market demands and environmental goals – without compromising performance and comfort.”

The very compact DHD Duo system with integrated claw clutch enables the easy integration of a longitudinally oriented hybrid drive in cars and commercial vehicles. This means it can be used in different vehicle models without structural modifications and offers OEMs a high level of flexibility. The longitudinally oriented DHD Duo front-wheel drive is part of the DHD Duo family from Magna. Its scalable design supports B to E segment vehicles, including SUVs, pickups and minibuses. It allows flexible switching between P1+P3, P2+P3 and range extender configurations and supports electric, serial and parallel driving modes. With the longitudinally oriented 800-volt front-wheel drive hybrid transmission with multi-speed design, Magna delivers a versatile solution for global markets and thus closes a product gap in this segment. Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025 at Magna's factory in Nanchang, China.
