Crystal world on the dashboard
Continental is presenting the first automotive display fully integrated into a crystal at CES 2024.

Crystal world on the dashboard
The ten-inch display is based on the latest MicroLED technology, which enables unprecedented brightness and contrast values. The image-generating panel is embedded in a crystal body and thus conveys the illusion of a free-floating representation of the content. For the original display that Continental developed in collaboration with Swarovski Mobility, the technology company was recognized with the CES Innovation Award Honoree for outstanding product design. “With the Crystal Center Display, we want to set ourselves apart from the previously known interior design in order to present a new and emotional eye-catcher for future premium vehicles,” said Boris Mergell, head of Continental’s User Experience business unit, on the occasion of the presentation of the display.
The unusual design of the central information display opens up new approaches for automobile designers to interpret minimalist yet luxurious interior concepts. Virtual assistance systems appear more natural and lively than ever before thanks to their semi-transparent and free-floating display. Swarovski Mobility gave the crystal body elegant facets using special grinding techniques. The experts at the traditional Austrian company have succeeded in designing a delicate yet extremely robust crystal housing that meets the optical and technical challenges for use in the vehicle. With its exceptional transparency, the tinted crystal element reveals the center console behind it. “The Crystal Center Display is the impressive result of the combination of numerous manufacturing and process technologies, which we brought together with Continental to implement this visually and technically impressive design element,” explained Peter Widmann, Senior Vice President B2B and Managing Director Swarovski Mobility.
