Used Teslas in demand
According to current figures from AutoScout24, the range of used electric cars has recently tripled. The demand for Tesla models remains unbroken in Austria.

Used Teslas in demand
The market for used electric vehicles in Austria has developed rapidly in recent years. According to current figures from AutoScout24, demand also shows a similar trend, albeit with significant fluctuations in some cases. While the number of used electric cars available increased by 10 percent in 2022, buyer interest increased by a good 81 percent. In the following year, however, demand fell by a good third, although supply increased significantly by 105 percent. In 2024 the upward trend returned. The availability of electric cars increased by 54 percent, accompanied by a 127 percent increase in purchasing interest. A differentiated picture emerges for 2025: supply remains roughly at the same level as the previous year, while demand continues to rise - albeit at a more moderate 41 percent.
Economic framework conditions
"This development shows that the market for electromobility in Austria is establishing itself, but is not without fluctuations. Factors such as funding measures and economic conditions, but above all also the factual information about all relevant data on e-cars, will be crucial for how supply and interest develop in the future," explains Nikolaus Menches, Country Manager of AutoScout24 in Austria. Last year, the top 5 most sought-after used electric cars in Austria included Tesla Model 3, Model S and Model Y. AutoScout24 is currently not recording a drop in demand for Tesla models. Overall, demand for all used Tesla models has increased significantly in recent months. Prices have fallen somewhat within the usual range over the same period because, on the one hand, there is more inventory on the market and at the same time more older vehicles are being offered for sale.
Fluctuating price developments
The price development for used electric cars shows significant fluctuations. Between February 2021 and February 2023, average prices rose sharply - from 33,600 euros to 47,497 euros, an increase of 41 percent. Prices then consolidated. In 2024, the average price was 41,189 euros, and by February 2025 the prices fell further to 37,425 euros. The average price for all used vehicles in February 2025 is 27,928 euros, which is around 9,500 euros below the price for used electric vehicles. A current survey by Norstat for AutoScout24 in January 2025 also shows how attitudes towards the type of drive when choosing a vehicle have changed in the last twelve months. While interest in electric cars is growing, combustion engines remain the preferred choice for many. The willingness to buy a new electric car has increased among 17 percent of those surveyed. Willingness has increased above average in Vienna and Burgenland (21 percent each) and in Lower Austria (18 percent). In the used car segment, the trend towards combustion engines is even clearer, with 25 percent more approval. For used electric vehicles, this figure is 13 percent lower. The Viennese (17 percent) and Lower Austrians (16 percent) in particular would currently be more likely to buy a used electric car than they were a year ago.
