This car is the safest of the year
Who would have thought? The safest car across all classes is not a luxury class vehicle that costs 100,000 euros, but the down-to-earth Subaru Outback (see picture). This is the result of the ADAC evaluation of the Euro NCAP crash test 2021.
Amazing: In the final tally, the Outback can even place ahead of Daimler's technology flagship Mercedes EQS, which takes excellent second place together with the Polestar 2 from Sweden. “It's like in competitive sports at the top of the world, where a hundredth of a second in the time calculation or a few centimeters in the distance decides whether someone ends up on the podium or not,” the ADAC explained the results. The BMW iX, the Munich premium manufacturer's great hope for the future, is in tenth place, just a few percentage points behind. The examples show how tough the technology competition is – and how close it is at the top.
After all - and this is the overall good news - 31 of the 42 newly tested models received the maximum rating of five stars. In the end, only three vehicles performed really poorly. “It's sad that one thing fails completely: the Renault Zoe,” says the ADAC, which reminds us that the French manufacturer of all companies has often been a pioneer in crash safety in the past. Immediately in front of the Zoe were two Dacia models (Sandero and Spring electric) and thus also vehicles from the Renault Group at the bottom of the ranking.
But back to Subaru. The brand seems to be quite underestimated in Europe. In the USA, the Japanese manufacturer sells more cars than the proud VW Group. The Outback and Forester models are among the top 20 best-selling car models in the USA. Number one in 2021 was the Ford F-150 for the 40th time in a row, followed by the Dodge Ram and the Chevrolet Silverado. This means that pickup trucks made the podium in the USA for the eighth time in a row.
And then a real Toyota festival follows. The Japanese place the RAV4 in fourth place as the best-selling SUV, closely followed by the SUV No. 2 Honda CR-V. The Toyota Camry is in sixth place - the most popular sedan for the 20th year in a row. The Toyota Highlander is also still in the top 10. Three other Toyota models rank in the top 25.
In 2021, for the first time in 90 years, General Motors promptly no longer led the sales rankings in the USA, but Toyota, a foreign company.
