The Škoda Octavia was the most popular company car in Austria last year. This emerges from an evaluation by LeasePlan. The leading specialist for fleet management and car-as-a-service in Austria has identified the most ordered company cars in 2021.

The Škoda Octavia leads by a long way. However, the Škoda Enyaq already ranks behind it, making it the first time that a purely electric vehicle is in the top 5. "This shows that e-mobility has finally arrived in our customers' fleets. Companies are taking on a pioneering role in the change towards clean, individual mobility," explains Hessel Kaastra, Managing Director of LeasePlan Austria. The Škoda Superb in third place rounds off Škoda's triple victory.

Places 4 and 5 go to the VW Passat and Touran, which means that the VW Group brands, unsurprisingly, impressively dominate the ranking of the most popular company vehicles in 2021. Other manufacturers such as BMW, among others with the X1, and Audi with the A4 can be found in the other places. With the Suzuki Swift, a small car also made it into the top 10. The ranking was created based on orders from LeasePlan customers.

The top 5 company vehicles in detail:

  • Škoda Octavia (8,7% Anteil an allen PKW-Bestellungen 2021)
  • Škoda Enyaq (6,0%)
  • Škoda Superb (4,3%)
  • VW Passat (3,6%)
  • VW Touran (3,5%)

In general, there was significant growth in alternative drives - one in four orders in 2021 was an electric or hybrid vehicle. Already one in four orders was an electric or hybrid vehicle, with companies clearly preferring purely electric vehicles to hybrid vehicles. A closer look at the most popular electric cars in 2021 shows a very colorful picture: In addition to Škoda and VW, Tesla and BMW also made it into the top 5, with the Škoda Enyaq clearly dominating the ranking.

Behind the Enyaq with a 23.7% share of all e-car orders in 2021 is the VW ID 4 with a 10.1% market share, just ahead of the Tesla Model 3 (10%). Fourth place among the most popular electric cars goes to the BMW iX3 (6.9%), fifth place again goes to Tesla, namely the Model Y (6%).

Meanwhile, commercial customers are increasingly relying on leasing for their vans. Last year, almost one in five orders was a van. When looking at the most popular commercial vehicles in 2021 (all drive types), two fully electric vans made it into the top 10: the Renault Kangoo Mach-E (6th place) and the Opel Vivaro-e (9th place). This makes it clear that environmentally friendly alternatives are also very popular in the commercial sector.

Overall, the commercial vehicle and company car sector is not spared from the automotive industry's delivery problems - especially with a view to the future. Hessel Kaastra says: "2022 is and will remain a challenging year, not only for vehicle manufacturers, but also for our customers. It will be exciting to see how vehicle availability and prices will continue to develop. This will clearly also have an effect on demand for brands and models."
