In 2024, the BMW Group in Austria achieved another record year, primarily due to a strong increase in registrations in the all-electric segment.

BMW: Growth with e-mobility

With sales of around 9.2 billion euros, the company recorded an increase in sales of over three percent in sales, production and development in a challenging macroeconomic environment. Despite a volatile economic situation, the BMW Group increased employment at all of its locations in Austria. As of December 2024, the company had 5,849 employees - this corresponds to an increase of six percent compared to the previous year. Investments in Austria as a business location also continued consistently: in 2024, the BMW Group invested over 569 million euros. The company thus realized an unprecedented investment sum in the last financial year.

Auto industry under pressure

The company attributes the positive sales result primarily to a strong sales year and an increased price level with regard to engine production. The BMW Group in Austria is recording significant growth in the fully electric vehicle segment. While the overall BEV market recorded a decline of 6.3 percent in 2024, the BMW Group reported a strong increase of 24 percent in registrations of fully electric BMW and MINI vehicles. With this result, the BMW brand secured second place in the overall all-electric market in Austria. The engine plant in Steyr was able to keep its production of combustion engines almost constant in 2024 at 1.2 million units compared to the previous year. “With this result, we are once again proving our resilience and competitiveness in the Austrian market environment,” emphasizes Alexander Bamberger, CEO BMW Austria. However, the company sees major challenges on the horizon: "The automotive ecosystem in Europe is under massive pressure. This doesn't just affect the sales market: we are already seeing a strong impact on the supply industry, which also connects us with other manufacturers." Despite these challenges, the BMW Group is looking constructively into the future: “Thanks to our technology-open approach, we are well prepared for the future,” says Bamberger. Last but not least, the launch of the “Neue Klasse” in autumn 2025 is intended to give the brand an additional boost with its electrical, digital and circular orientation.
