Need to catch up with batteries
Experts from business and science discussed the current challenges and opportunities of drive change at the Hilton Vienna Waterfront Hotel.

Need to catch up with batteries
The Lagermax Group and LogBatt GmbH organized a conference on the topic of “Battery Logistics and Electromobility” on February 13th. The focus was on topics such as decarbonization, battery logistics and the future of the automotive industry in Europe. Ferdinand Dudenhöffer gave exciting insights into the global automotive industry and the development of electromobility. He highlighted that Europe has a lot of catching up to do compared to China, especially in the area of battery production. In 2024, 2.9 million New Energy Vehicles (NEV) were sold in Europe, while 10.7 million were sold in China. Dudenhöffer emphasized that cooperation with Chinese companies is necessary to optimize production processes and reduce costs. A positive signal is the start of VW battery cell production in Salzgitter in 2025, which represents a promising test for Europe.
Efficient and safe battery logistics
Michael Knobloch, Head of Sales/Marketing at LogBatt GmbH, spoke about the increasing challenges of battery logistics as electromobility grows. He highlighted the entire supply chain from safe storage to legally compliant disposal and presented innovative 360-degree logistics solutions from LogBatt. Reverse logistics in particular is a central component in ensuring sustainable and legally compliant battery disposal. Michael Ausserdorfer, General Manager Waste Management at Frikus Transportlogistik GmbH, dedicated himself to the circular economy and the topic of “Future Waste”. In Austria, over 74 million tons of waste are generated every year, of which only 35 percent is recycled. Ausserdorfer presented innovative technologies such as chemical recycling, AI-supported sorting and blockchain technologies that make material flows more transparent and efficient. The automotive industry is playing a pioneering role here by already establishing recycling concepts for vehicle parts.
Close collaboration
The conference clearly showed that electromobility and battery logistics face major challenges, but also opportunities. Close cooperation between politics, business and science is necessary in order to make the transformation sustainable and economically successful. Through innovative technologies, efficient processes and international cooperation, European companies can play a key role in the global electromobility strategy.
