Aspern falls victim to electrification
Stellantis is phasing out production of mechanical gears at its Vienna-Aspern plant.

Aspern falls victim to electrification
In the context of the current shift in the automotive industry towards electromobility, triggered by European regulations and evolving customer demand, Stellantis has analyzed the impact on the Aspern plant, which currently produces the MB6 mechanical transmission for internal combustion engines. Since the conditions for a sustainable future of the Aspern plant are not met, a project for the gradual phase-out of production activities in the plant is being developed and discussed with the works council.
Stellantis wants to implement a series of social measures for its approximately 300 employees at the Aspern plant and support their professional retraining. A job center will be set up to offer individual assistance to support employees moving to new jobs, including options within the group. A comprehensive social plan will be drawn up in the coming weeks in close coordination with the works councils. Stellantis wants to contact the property owner regarding the use of the site. The manufacturer's decision will have no impact on the company's local sales organizations. Austria is one of the pilot countries for the introduction of the new retailer model in Europe. The presence of the car brands in Austria remains unaffected, new car sales, used car sales and all after sales activities are not affected.
