The BMW Group's three millionth electrified vehicle, a BMW 330 Touring in Portimao Blue, rolled off the assembly line at the main plant in Munich.

The anniversary BMW is intended for the British market. By 2024, one in four of the company's vehicles sold was fully electric or a plug-in hybrid. In the BMW Group plants, vehicles with electrified drives and combustion engines are produced in a mix on a common production line. “Thanks to its high level of production flexibility, the BMW Group can meet customer requirements in line with market and demand,” explains Production Director Milan Nedeljković. “All plants in our global production network are capable of electromobility, enabling further growth in this segment.”
Start of BEV series production
In 2013, the company entered series production of fully electric vehicles with the BMW i3. The city electric car was built in the Leipzig plant for almost ten years, parallel to the BMW Group's first plug-in hybrid, the BMW i8. Due to the vehicle architecture, production of the BMW i3 took place in Leipzig in an area specifically set up for electric production alongside the production of vehicles with standard drives. Since then, the BMW Group has integrated electrically powered vehicles into production at all plants worldwide. Many plants started with plug-in hybrid models that were built on the same line in a flexible mix with diesel and gasoline counterparts. The electromobility share of production volume is growing consistently and was over 25 percent in 2024, around three quarters of which are fully electric vehicles. A total of one and a half million BEVs from the BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands have already been delivered.
