All-wheel drive pickups exempt from NoVA
The federal government has abolished the standard consumption tax (NoVA) for pickup trucks with double cabs and permanent all-wheel drive.

The Austrian automobile importers criticize the fact that this new regulation will have little effect in practice and that not a single pick-up is exempt from NoVA: "Pick-ups will only remain tax-exempt if they have simple equipment. Although the BMF has removed the criterion of permanent all-wheel drive from the list that defines what is meant by such simple equipment, all other criteria such as heated rear windows or electric seat adjustment remain. That This means that, after an initial reality check, no pick-up truck will benefit from the NoVA exemption for the affected brands," says Günther Kerle, spokesman for the Austrian automobile importers, dampening the expectations of many companies and customers.
"We hope that the evaluation of the list of criteria promised for 2026 will be brought forward and that a realistic definition of the criteria will be made. This should be based on the market in order to make these vehicles available to companies as work equipment, exempt from NoVA, as originally promised by politicians," says Klaus Edelsbrunner, chairman of the Federal Vehicle Trade Committee in the WKO.
