More than 1,000 participants from 56 countries and regions will be competing in 61 competitive professions this fall. Austria is one of the host countries alongside Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea, the USA and the United Kingdom. As part of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition Austria, seven competitions will be held in Salzburg from November 23rd to 27th, 2022 at the same time as the career information fair, with top young professionals from the professions of plant electrical engineering, concrete construction, chemical laboratory technology, electrical engineering, structural engineering (bricklayer), agricultural and construction machinery technology as well as forwarding logistics demonstrating their skills.

The world championship of automotive technicians will be held from October 25th to 28th in the House of the Automotive Industry in Dresden. The Austrian participant is Markus Mair, employed at AVL List GmbH in Graz. The 21-year-old Styrian was winner of the Styrian state apprenticeship competition 2021, third in the federal apprenticeship competition 2021 and winner of the AustrianSkills 2022. Mair first attended an agricultural technical school before going to the Arnfels vocational school as an automotive technology apprentice with a focus on system electronics. He completed his apprenticeship at AVL List GmbH this year. Mair's area of responsibility includes work in vehicle development such as maintaining and repairing prototype vehicles, assembling individual components and equipping them with measuring points. "My goal for the future is to take the master's examination. The WorldSkills are a great challenge for me, but also a great opportunity!"
