Female offspring at Porsche
Porsche Holding is the largest apprentice trainer in the automotive industry and is always at the top of the list of the country's top employers. Around 200 new apprentices across Austria will start their professional careers at Porsche Holding in August and September. More than 180 of them start at Porsche Inter Auto (PIA), the rest in various areas at Porsche Holding Salzburg. Apprentices at the country's largest automobile trading company can choose from nine divisions: automotive technician, automotive paint technician, body construction technician, retail clerk with a focus on automobiles, office clerk, retail clerk with a focus on spare parts, assistant in finance and accounting, information technologist, system technology and application developer as well as operational logistics clerk.
Although the general training trend is clearly moving towards higher schools, many young people are still opting for a career that includes apprenticeships. Training in the automotive sector is still one of the most sought-after apprenticeships today. Around 4,500 applicants applied for the 200 apprenticeship positions advertised this year. The Porsche Holding companies have been extremely successful in counteracting the ever-increasing shortage of apprentices for years through a modern and diverse training system in nine divisions as well as particularly attractive incentives. On the one hand, there is a whole range of benefits - the range extends from many discounts to the Austria-wide climate ticket. There is also the chance to win valuable awards in various apprentice competitions. The successful graduates of the vocational schools and the apprenticeship exams receive, among other things, cash bonuses or tickets for the “Electric Love” concert. In the “Best Of Club” special achievements are rewarded through tours of the VW Group’s automobile plants. The possibility of demanding additional training in the in-house training centers (IBS) also has an additional appeal. Paul Gahleitner, human resources manager at Porsche Holding Salzburg, is pleased about the skyrocketing number of female applicants - this year it already amounted to 27 percent. This means that more than a quarter of all those interested in a profession that is actually considered a male domain were young females.
