BFI Vienna takes over Stellantis training workshops

The BFI Vienna has taken over the former Stellantis training workshops in the Opel factory. In the future, over a hundred young people in Vienna Aspern will be trained as mechatronics engineers as part of the BFI Vienna's inter-company apprenticeship training and will be supported through to the final apprenticeship examination. This is also the case for Margarete Dungl, an apprentice in her second year: "For me, this is an absolute job of the future. I hope that through the training I will not only have a well-paid job later, but also be able to make a contribution to the fight against climate change," she says and proudly shows off the LED cube she soldered and programmed herself.

“Together we managed to ensure a very harmonious subsequent use of the excellent training infrastructure in the training workshops of the Opel plant,” says Franz-Josef Lackinger, Managing Director of BFI Vienna. The use of the former Stellantis training workshops is not only in the interests of sustainability - part of the machine fleet was taken over with the training workshops - but also a benefit for all sides: "Our apprentices benefit from a modern training facility in which they can be specifically prepared for the requirements of the labor market," Lackinger is convinced. “Coupled with the many years of experience of our trainers, these are the best prerequisites for successfully completing training to become a highly sought-after specialist.”

AMS Vienna boss Winfried Göschl sees the inter-company apprenticeship, financed with funds from AMS Vienna and waff, as another important piece of the puzzle in the fight against the climate crisis: "There is a great need for workers and skilled workers who can install PV systems, connect heat pumps, and re-equip houses technically. And with this inter-company training, a further step is taken to satisfy this demand." waff managing director Fritz Meißl also spoke up for inter-company apprenticeships at the Open House: "The most important task of waff is to support Viennese people in their professional development. Inter-company apprenticeships are a great construct to enable young people who cannot find an apprenticeship on the primary job market to receive modern vocational training - and thus to give them very good opportunities to start their careers." BFI Managing Director Lackinger adds: “Through the training, Viennese companies receive a large number of highly trained specialists delivered virtually ‘free to their door’.”
