Two-wheeler market: recovery in sight?

Five months after the forced closure of the motorcycle trade, Arge 2Rad, the umbrella association of Austrian two-wheeler importers and the two-wheeler industry, is pleased with the results of the first seven months of this difficult year. Due to the continuous, intensive exchange between production, importers and trading companies - despite the almost two-month blockage - the sales figures from January to July 2020 almost equaled the comparable figures from the previous year.

“We are pleased that the overall market figures we now have have reached within four percent of the previous year’s level”says Karin Munk, Secretary General of the Arge 2Rad."We wouldn't have dared to dare to do that two months ago. If we could fully satisfy the enormous demand on the product side, the numbers would have been even better and we would be in the black. Due to the production stop - many supply chains were interrupted for more than a month during the peak sales period - we are now caught up in the fact that there are long delivery times for certain, highly sought-after models."

The scooter segment is already at the previous year's level and the moped sector even increased by seven percent. Urban, individual mobility plays an important role in times like these. Especially in times of “social distancing”, all so-called PTWs (Powered Two Wheelers) have taken on a very special position and have finally established themselves as an important, indispensable, affordable and individual means of transport.
