As a former active motorsport athlete and technical commissioner at the Austrian National Rally Championship, Norbert Kornberger has earned a good reputation as a specialist in service and repair of racing vehicles as well as everyday cars and classic cars. He runs his business on Vienna's Speisinger Straße, which opened in 2006, with two employed automotive technicians, the brothers Mendin and Milot Haskaj, as well as one part-time employee.
“We are currently processing a few orders and taking care of emergencies such as tire damage, engine defects or broken exhaust systems,” says Kornberger. The supply of spare parts is secured; parts dealer Birner supplies the workshop up to four times a day if necessary. Kornberger is also still working on appointments that have already been agreed for pickerl checks, and the EBV program is doing a good job.
“The classic car season should actually start soon, but our regular customers prefer to wait until the crisis is over,” says the master mechanic. His greatest concern is to lead the small independent workshop unscathed through the current lull in orders and to maintain full employment of his employees. But like his colleagues in the industry, he accepts the inevitable fate: “If things continue like this, we can last another two weeks without government subsidies, then things will be tight.”
