The Upper Austrian battery manufacturer Kreisel Electric, together with the Dutch energy company Shell, has developed an innovative power storage solution for electric cars, commercial vehicles and other applications that require high-performance electric batteries. Shell has developed a dielectric thermal management fluid that directly surrounds and cools the battery cells in Kreisel's battery design. The system offers up to 28% energy efficiency improvement for battery cooling compared to traditional sidewall cooling commonly used in the automotive industry. Because less energy is lost maintaining the battery's optimal operating temperature, the stronger battery performance improves range relative to battery size. The solution from Kreisel and Shell also brings measurable advantages when it comes to fast charging - the battery life is extended by up to 80%. Kreisel Electric and Shell want to jointly market and continually improve the battery and liquid technology system.
