The price decides
When searching for a used car, price is still the most important decision-making criterion (56.7%), followed by mileage (34.4%) and year of manufacture (25.8%). In fourth place is the validity of the sticker (23.1%), ahead of the car brand (17.2%).
Brand classics are in demand used cars
Across Austria, there is still a strong focus on classics such as VW (54.1%) or Audi (46.2%). Ford (33%), BMW (32.1%) and Skoda (32%) are currently vying for third place in this ranking. However, the car brand is only a criterion for men (20% vs. 13.3% for women). If there are equivalent offers, the deciding factors are the mileage (36.4%), the first registration (30.8%) and the performance (30.5%).
Find your dream car via digital vehicle exchanges
In eight out of ten cases, people search for a suitable used car on online car exchanges or via the associated app. In two out of three cases, the search is carried out using a smartphone - it is always with you. You can also contact the provider by phone if an ad arouses interest (33.5%).
Successful search
Four out of ten people in the core group have already found a car in the past six months. The main reason for this (for every second person) was the digital vehicle exchange. In comparison, 11.9% found their dream car by visiting used car dealers, 9.7% through general online research using a search engine - and 8.5% through a circle of friends. One in three people specifically searched for used cars from a car dealer, with warranty and guarantees cited as reasons. Around 23% are primarily looking for private advertisements where they hope to get price advantages or more room for negotiation and have often already had good experiences. In 53% of cases, the used car purchased was purchased from a vehicle dealer.
Buying a new car is also an issue for many people looking for something
More than 60 percent of the car seekers surveyed could also imagine buying a new car. As the most important research tools for the search, dealer websites (51.4%) and digital vehicle exchanges (51.2%) are in a neck-and-neck race. Personal visits to dealers (41.1%) are also an important factor. Reasons for buying a new car include the guarantee (54%) and the plan for long-term use of the car (36.8%).
