Wiesenthal sells Austrian business to MERBAG

“With the Swiss MERBAG, we managed to find a buyer who, due to its long-standing and traditional history, fits perfectly with the corporate culture of Wiesenthal in Austria,” comments Henrik Starup-Hansen on the sale of “Wiesenthal Handel und Service GmbH”, which was finalized with the signing of the contract on December 17, 2019. This includes a total of 6 branch locations (Troststraße, Triesterstraße, Wiedner Hauptstraße, Donaustadt, Liesing and Brunn am Gebirge) as well as the service and fleet management provider “Mo’Drive”. The deal is scheduled to close by June 2020. All 538 employees will be taken over by MERBAG.
The Swiss “Mercedes-Benz Automobil AG” (MERBAG) is the federal market leader in Mercedes-Benz trading. The company was founded in 1912 and is owned by the Stüber family. The purchase that has now been decided consistently continues the international expansion policy of the renowned automobile dealer. Most recently, 6 branches in Milan and 5 branches in Luxembourg were taken over.

Focus on Motor-Car Group
In the future, Wiesenthal will control sales activities in the markets of Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic with his “Motor-Car Group” from Vienna and Bratislava.  The company currently generates a trading turnover of €450 million in the three markets and employs around 1,450 people at 49 locations.  The focus of trading activities is in Slovakia.
