Who drives us crazy in traffic?

Local traffic can be a real headache for participants. A current survey of 524 people commissioned by AutoScout24 shows what makes you particularly emotional and perhaps even leads to loud tirades of abuse.

Hot-tempered

What is certain is that Austrians are not the person to be calm when it comes to road traffic. Only 7 percent say they keep their composure no matter what other road users do or don't do. In any case, there are plenty of reasons to lose your temper, as the survey shows: Formula 1 amateurs who race and drive too closely top the list of upsets. 56 percent of those surveyed cannot stay calm here, especially when they are still being blinked at. For one in two people, the classics of impropriety, “pushing ahead” and unnecessary overtaking maneuvers, leave heads spinning behind the wheel. Almost 50 percent are extremely upset by drivers who make abrupt turns without signaling. Drivers who cut when changing lanes and slow drivers in the fast lane on the highway (both with 46 percent approval) round out the top five.

But road users on two wheels can also cause displeasure. For 39 percent of respondents, rants are triggered by those cyclists who don't use the bike path and instead fight each other on the street. Even traffic jams, when you're stressed, are reason enough for around a third to complain and curse. What 28 percent do not accept calmly: being honked at by other drivers for no apparent reason.

Women less cool

One thing is particularly striking in the results of the survey: female drivers lose their temper more often than men behind the wheel. They only have more understanding for one misbehavior, namely making phone calls without a hands-free device. Here, 22 percent of men and only 19 percent of women show no mercy.
