VW shows the new ID.4
After the ID.3, VW is now presenting its big SUV brother ID.4 - and providing insights into the new strategy.

VW shows the new ID.4
The ID.4 celebrates its digital world premiere. It is the first purely electrically powered SUV from Volkswagen that runs with zero local emissions and has a carbon footprint2-neutrally produced. It is entering the world's largest market segment, the compact SUV class. The key data: electric motor with 150 kW (204 hp), with the 77 kWh battery up to 520 km range (WLTP), 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, top 160 km/h.
The 4.58 meter long ID.4 uses the architecture of Volkswagen's modular electric drive system (MEB). It divides the spaces for people and technology in a completely new way and for the benefit of the passengers. The space in the interior is on a par with a conventional SUV in the next larger class. The luggage compartment holds 543 to 1,575 liters, depending on the position of the rear seat backs. The ID.4's equipment range includes an electric tailgate, roof rails and a towing hitch.
Together with the ID. models, Volkswagen is bringing a complete package for convenient, networked and sustainable charging of electric cars onto the market under the term “We Charge”. At a DC fast charging station, the ID.4 can recharge with direct current for the next 320 km (according to WLTP, at 125 kW) in around 30 minutes. At the same time, Volkswagen is building an ecosystem of sustainable electromobility around the ID. models. ID.4 customers receive a car that has a carbon footprint2-was produced neutrally. If it is charged with sustainably generated electricity, it remains climate-neutral during operation.
strategy
Volkswagen has recently supplemented the brand's classic product portfolio with the ID. family, a new, independent product range. After the compact ID.3, the SUV ID.4 is the second fully electric model. With the ID.4, Volkswagen will be represented in the rapidly growing global compact SUV segment. The ID.4 is gradually becoming an electrically powered world car, because the e-SUV is to be built and sold not only in Europe, but also in China and later in the USA. In total, the Volkswagen brand is investing eleven billion euros in electromobility by 2024 as part of the “Transform 2025+” strategy.
