In the third quarter of this year, the Volkswagen Group doubled deliveries of pure electric vehicles. Despite the semiconductor shortage, a total of 122,100 battery-electric vehicles were sold.

The VW Group successfully continued its global e-offensive in the third quarter of 2021. Despite the semiconductor shortage, 122,100 BEVs were handed over to customers from July to September, an increase of 109 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In China in particular, the market ramp-up accelerated significantly in Q3 to 28,900 BEVs, after 18,300 in the first half of the year. The BEV share of global deliveries rose to more than 6 percent in Q3. A total of 293,100 BEVs were delivered worldwide by the end of September, more than twice as many as in the same period last year (+138 percent). Vehicles with plug-in hybrid drives (PHEV) also continued to be in high demand. A total of 246,000 PHEVs were delivered in the first nine months, more than twice as many as in the same period last year (+133 percent).
Number 1 in Europe
Christian Dahlheim, Head of Group Sales: "Our global e-offensive is still in full swing. There is definitely strong demand for our global annual target of one million electrified vehicles." When it comes to BEV deliveries by region, Europe remained clearly at the top after nine months with 209,800 vehicles (share: 72 percent). The group was the market leader here with a BEV market share of around 26 percent. In the USA, the group delivered 27,300 BEVs, putting it in second place in the fully electric vehicle segment with a market share of around 8 percent. 47,200 BEVs were delivered in China by the end of September, which is 16 percent of the group's global BEV deliveries. In the third quarter, the Chinese share was 24 percent due to the accelerated market ramp-up. The core brand Volkswagen handed over 167,800 BEVs to customers by the end of September (share: 57 percent). This was followed by the brands Audi with 52,800 vehicles (share: 18 percent), ŠKODA with 32,100 vehicles (share: 11 percent), Porsche with 28,600 vehicles (share: 10 percent) and SEAT with 8,800 vehicles (share: 3 percent).
