VW Golf knocks BMW 3 Series off its throne

The VW Golf climbed to the top of the popularity list with the most page views on AutoScout24 in Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain and relegated the previous favorite BMW 3 Series to second place, followed by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class as well as the E-Class and Audi A4. The VW Golf also increased slightly in price and was available for an average of 15,784 euros. The BMW 3 Series changed hands for around 16,307 euros (+1.1 percent). The Mercedes models recorded the biggest price increase: the C-Class rose by 3.8 percent to 25,138 euros and the E-Class even rose by 4.8 percent to 27,805 euros. Only the Audi A4 could be purchased minimally cheaper in 2019, at an average of 19,134 euros.

Austrians love German brands

For Austrians, the ranking differs from the European average. Although the VW Golf also leads the ranking ahead of the BMW 3 Series, it is followed by the A4 car, the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6. Almost every third Austrian is looking for a black car, 18 percent are looking for a dark gray one. When it comes to brands, Austrians have a clear preference for German manufacturers: Volkswagen leads ahead of BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Ford is the only non-European brand in fifth place.
