Since 1974, the Golf has had a significant impact on generations of drivers. Meanwhile, the seventh generation of the bestseller has been on the market since 2012. With the current facelift the time will be up to 2019 -. Then comes the eighth generation – bridged. The exterior mutations were carried out moderately and with a sense of proportion. On the one hand, the interior is familiar and tried and tested: solid material workmanship and comfortable seats. On the other hand, digital features are finding their way into the compact classic with the Active Info Display. At the touch of a button you can vary the settings as to which information you want to focus on in the instrument cluster. Everything is self-explanatory and pragmatic.

The displays are now larger and easier to read. Good this way. After all, the Generation Golf protagonists – like the author of these lines – are slowly but surely reaching the age of wearing progressive lenses. The space available in the automobile, which is not too long for a compact car at 4.26 meters from bumper to bumper, is ultimately ok. The trunk volume is between 380 and 1270 liters.

The Euro 6-compliant 150 hp 2.0-liter TDI is completely convincing in terms of both agility and fuel consumption. An average consumption of 5.9 l/100 km and 340 Nm are certainly impressive.

Conclusion:The compact one simply cuts a fine figure. The design appears classic, solid, and by no means overly extravagant. In fact, there is a bit of a risk of boredom, but in fact the curve has still been scratched. Top in terms of driving fun, comfort and casualness.
