Volkswagen starts production
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand plants are gradually restarting production after the first wave of the Corona crisis.

Volkswagen starts production
The plants in Zwickau and Bratislava (Slovakia) will begin production first in the week starting April 20th. In the week starting April 27th, production will begin again in the remaining German production facilities as well as in Portugal, Spain, Russia and the USA. During the course of May, production will gradually resume in South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
Ralf Brandstätter, COO of the Volkswagen brand, said: "With the decisions of the federal and state governments as well as the easing of measures in other European countries, the framework conditions have been created to be able to gradually resume production. Volkswagen has prepared intensively for this over the last three weeks. In addition to developing an extensive catalog of measures to protect the health of the workforce, we have also pushed ahead with the reconstruction of our supply chains." Short-time work continues to apply to the Volkswagen plants in Germany, but the number of short-time workers will be gradually reduced depending on the start-up.
The start-up takes place in accordance with the current availability of parts, the government requirements in Germany and Europe, the development in the sales markets and the resulting production methods. Regardless of this, compliance with the high health protection measures for employees is always our top priority.
When restarting, the company is also drawing on the experience gained from ramping up its production facilities in China, where a large number of consistent health protection measures were successfully implemented. 32 of the 33 plants there are already producing again. There have been no cases of Covid-19 among the workforce there.
