New drive systems, autonomous driving, the entry of the IT industry into the automotive sector and changing customer behavior: the automotive industry is currently changing faster than ever before. According to Andreas Tostmann, member of the Volkswagen brand board for the production and logistics division, digitalization plays a crucial role in almost all of these changes. “Especially in Europe, where we are particularly successful in mechanical engineering and less in the area of digitalization, future managers with agile teams must ensure that these two worlds are combined even better.”
Completing the Professional MBA Automotive Industry prepares participants for precisely these challenges, as the “crucial topics are illuminated by international speakers from various industries,” says the VW manager, who himself helped develop the postgraduate course and is a former speaker in the program. In addition to current business topics, students of the Professional MBA Automotive Industry gain deep insights into the structures and processes of the automotive and supplier industry, especially in the areas of production, logistics and Industry 4.0. "We need a new type of manager. I am convinced that topics such as electromobility or new business models require different thinking than just the classic 'I produce cars and sell them'. We want to train this in our MBA," says course leader Prof. Wilfried Sihn.
Over the last ten years, an international alumni network of over 140 participants and graduates from 25 countries has emerged. One of them is Roland Hintringer, a 2015 graduate and current Vice President of Innovation & Technology at MIBA AG: "The program enabled me to improve my management skills and expand my network in the automotive industry. Most of the speakers hold leading positions in the industry, which provided exciting insights into the 'real life' of the automotive industry. I am still in contact with some of them, which is why the course was a very valuable experience for me."
The program highlights include excursions to well-known companies, top-class business evenings, lectures directly on the factory premises of OEMs and block lectures every four to six weeks in Vienna or Bratislava.
