Toyota on the rise
Noticeable growth in light commercial vehicles and high demand for Yaris and RAV4 are giving the Japanese manufacturer a boost.

Toyota on the rise
In February 2021, 19,863 new registrations were registered; in 2020 there were 21,099 new vehicles. On the other hand, there was a significant increase in light commercial vehicles (N1): +14.8 percent or 3,794 new N1 registrations were registered. The government's new NoVA regulations in the second half of the year are greetings and the market for light commercial vehicles is growing.
Cumulatively, it looks like this: The overall car market fell by -22.8 percent after the first two months and recorded 33,996 new registrations. Commercial vehicles are up three percent with a total of 6,374 new registrations.
Toyota is gaining ground
Toyota was able to increase its market share in new passenger car registrations by 0.2 percentage points to 2.2 percent in February and achieved 437 new registrations (2020: 423 NZL) - only just under a third of all brands were able to increase unit numbers. There is particularly strong demand for the Toyota Yaris and Toyota RAV4 models. Cumulatively, Toyota has a 2.2 percent market share (+0.2 percentage points) with 738 new registrations.
Toyota even recorded a significant increase in light commercial vehicles: new registrations more than doubled in February 2021 compared to the same month last year (113 NZL compared to 53). The market share has therefore increased to 3.0 percent. The Toyota Hilux models and the entire Proace family are particularly successful.
