Sharp decline in fuel consumption

The consumption assessment of the domestic mineral oil market by the Association of the Mineral Oil Industry (FVMI) shows a significant decline in domestic fuel consumption compared to the previous year. In the first half of 2020, consumption of gasoline and diesel in Austria was almost 3.4 million tons. This represents a decrease of 20.2 percent compared to the previous year and corresponds to sales of around 4.1 billion liters of fuel, which is divided into around 790 million liters of petrol and around 3.3 billion liters of diesel. The decline in consumption of gasoline amounts to 23.8 percent and that of diesel to 19.4 percent. According to the FVMI, the large customer business contributed to the fact that diesel sales fell less than gasoline sales. Around 57 percent of diesel fuel was sold through around 2,700 publicly accessible filling stations, while 43 percent was sold to major customers in the commercial business. As in previous years, almost 100 percent of gasoline was sold to customers via the gas station market.
