It took ten years for NewMotion to reach the milestone of 100,000 charging points in March 2019. This number has now been doubled within just two more years. The continued growth will help achieve Shell's target of operating a total of 500,000 charging points by 2025. In order to provide e-car drivers with seamless and easily accessible charging with just a charging card or app, there is no way around roaming. “By further expanding our roaming network through collaborations with well-known partners, we combat range anxiety and ultimately improve interoperability across Europe,” explains Melanie Lane, CEO of NewMotion. The Shell subsidiary is currently working with more than 200 roaming partners and is looking for more partners. The NewMotion charging card or app is currently used by more than 395,000 registered drivers. Since an average electric car driver currently still uses more than two charging cards, roaming partnerships should enable open networks so that drivers can use the charging services of different providers with just one card.
