Seat produces respiratory aids
Seat is supporting the Spanish healthcare system during the Corona crisis. Instead of cars, mechanized ventilation aids are manufactured in Martorell - with a twist.

Seat produces respiratory aids
The production facility for the Seat Leon at the Martorell plant is almost unrecognizable: no vehicles are currently rolling off the production line here, only mechanized respiratory aids. Seat wants to make its contribution to relieving the strain on the Spanish health system, which has been hit hard by the Corona crisis. The system was converted in record time - thanks to the tireless efforts of a large number of Seat employees, whose sense of solidarity proved to be a strong driving force.
“The fact that we can use our knowledge and experience to mass-produce urgently needed life-saving devices motivates us all immensely,” says Nicolás Mora from the production department at the Seat factory in Martorell.
In collaboration with the prototype specialist Protofy.XYZ, a high-quality respiratory aid, the OxyGEN, was created in a very short time. This innovative solution consists of more than 80 electronic and mechanical components, including 3D printed gears, transmission shafts and a converted windshield wiper motor. The strict quality control of the finished device also includes sterilization with UV light.
The respiratory aid OxyGEN has been in production since the end of March. To achieve this, 150 employees from various areas of the company quickly relocated their workplaces and are now building vital ventilators where the Seat Leon was previously assembled. "Converting an assembly line that actually produces vehicle parts so that respiratory aids can be manufactured here was a comprehensive, difficult task in which many areas of the company were involved. But we managed it in record time," says Sergio Arreciado from the process engineering department at Seat.
