As a result of the factory closures in the automotive industry, the global automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler is adjusting its production capacities.

The adjustment is location-specific and takes into account the respective needs in the divisions. In addition to the health and safety of employees, maintaining supply chains and supporting customers is a top priority.
In order to implement the adjustment as quickly, efficiently and in a balanced manner as possible, the company, together with the employee representatives and the representatives of the works councils, has agreed on a package of measures that provides various instruments. This understanding is based on the conviction that the increasingly deteriorating situation can only be overcome together, with a sense of proportion and with close solidarity between all those involved. The agreed package of measures includes, in addition to the already proven instruments, such as:closing days,Flextime accountsandCompany holidays, including the newly adopted regulations on the occasion of the crisisShort-time work. It applies to the entire company in Germany.
"The spread of the corona virus poses major challenges for all companies. Schaeffler's top priority is to protect the health of our employees, keep our supply chains intact as much as possible and minimize the impact of the crisis on our customers. To this end, we now have to react quickly and flexibly in order to adapt our production capacities to specific locations. The package of measures approved with the employee representatives makes an important contribution to this," said Klaus Rosenfeld, Chairman of the Board of Management of Schaeffler AG.
“If we have to reduce production in the factories due to the crisis, it was important to us that flexible solutions were quickly established that fit the individual locations in Germany and placed as little strain on employees as possible,” said Jürgen Wechsler, representative of IG Metall at Schaeffler AG.
The implementation of the measures began immediately.
