The gearbox is available in both axially parallel and coaxial forms and offers a high input torque with a small space requirement. Both variants are installed in the new Audi e-tron. The coaxial variant ensures comfortable rear-wheel drive, while switching on the axle-parallel variant on the front axle enables all-wheel drive. The heart of the whole thing is the planetary gear set developed by Schaeffler with a highly integrated spur gear differential. “The whole team is proud of the innovation that we developed together with Audi,” says Jochen Schröder, Head of E-Mobility at Schaeffler. In the future, he expects to produce up to 250,000 transmission units per year. Thanks to their modular design, the gearboxes can be easily adapted for other applications. Thanks to the new e-mobility strategy, Schaeffler's modular system is equipped for both pure electric vehicles and the hybridization of the internal combustion engine powertrain.
