Schaeffler celebrates its 75th

The brothers Wilhelm Schaeffler and Georg Schaeffler laid the foundation for the group in 1946 by founding Industrie GmbH in Herzogenaurach, Germany. It is the starting signal for a company that now has more than 83,900 employees at around 200 locations in over 50 countries. The three initially independent companies INA, LuK and FAG grew into a global technology group with the DNA of a family business. The rapid rise from 1950 was made possible by the cage-guided needle bearing, an ingenious invention by Georg Schaeffler that was widely used in automobile construction and industry. In 1965, the brothers became involved in LuK Lamellen und Hülsenbau GmbH in Bühl, Baden, today the headquarters of the Automotive Technologies division. Disc spring clutches, dual-mass flywheels and engine elements are examples of innovative products that put the company at the forefront of technology. LuK has been fully owned by Schaeffler since 1999.

Growth with rolling bearings

In 2001, Schaeffler took over FAG Kugelfischer Georg Schäfer AG in Schweinfurt. This made Schaeffler the second largest rolling bearing manufacturer in the world. The successful IPO of Schaeffler AG followed in 2015. Today the three product brands INA, LuK and FAG are united under the strong corporate brand Schaeffler. On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, Schaeffler AG and IHO Holding are establishing the Schaeffler Foundation in order to underline the social responsibility of the group and its family shareholders. The Schaeffler Foundation will have an initial foundation capital of 3 million euros, which will be provided equally by Schaeffler AG and IHO Holding. The foundation capital is increased every year through further donations. At the same time, existing activities, such as the Schaeffler FAG Foundation, will be brought in. The foundation will be active worldwide and will focus primarily on three areas: 1. climate and environmental protection, 2. research and science and 3. education, qualification and equal opportunities.
