At the state apprenticeship competition for coachbuilders in Salzburg, seven young boys competed for the victory trophy. Two of them qualified to take part in the state championship in the fall.

There were three stations to complete. First, a metal sheet had to be formed, welded in and seam sealing had to be done. Then it was time to repair a plastic part and finally to coat a surface. In addition to the standard coating, a color gradient should be painted. BASF Coatings Services, based in Eugendorf, sponsored the Glasurit brand paint material required for this. There were also giveaways from the Salzburg company for all participants and attractive prizes for places 1 to 3. The winner received a limited edition SATA 5500 X RP paint gun from Glasurit.
High level
In the end, it was not easy for the jury around Walter Aigner, state guild master of automotive technicians, Stefan Gassner, owner of the Lack WG company, Christian Baierhofer, Glasurit field sales representative and Benjamin Buchheister, training manager at the Glasurit training center in Eugendorf. “The workpieces are of a very high standard – especially when you consider how many different tasks had to be completed in such a short time,” says Buchheister. With the most points, Andreas Ragginger, who works at Pappas in Wals, came in first place; second place went to Martin Magner, who is also completing his apprenticeship at Christian Seidl Gmbh in Wals. Both will represent the state of Salzburg at the Austrian national championship, which is expected to take place in Vienna at the beginning of September. Third place went to Maximilian Tabernig, who is training at the Lindner car dealership in Wals. It is thanks to Markus Ehrenfellner, specialist teacher at Salzburg State Vocational School 1, and director Alexandra Haitzmann that this competition was able to take place even during Corona times. All examiners and participants were tested in advance and all necessary protective measures and distance rules were observed. Yvonne Rohde-Hofbauer, technical manager at BASF, explained her company's commitment: "It is important that, despite the current exceptional situation, the training and further education of apprentices is not neglected."
