Continental and Horizon Robotics have signed an agreement for a joint venture based in Shanghai. The aim is to develop hardware and software for driver assistance systems and automated driving. The joint venture is expected to consist of around 200 employees. Their task is to integrate Horizon Robotics' processors and algorithms into Continental's smart cameras and controllers for driver assistance systems and automated driving, as well as to give Horizon Robotics a global reach and production base for its technology. They also want to work closely with Elektrobit, a global provider of automotive software.

Artificial intelligence

“By establishing a joint venture with our new partner, we can leverage a powerful combination of state-of-the-art AI technology and many years of experience in manufacturing and quality processes with first-class and affordable products,” said Frank Petznick, head of the driver assistance systems business unit at Continental. "The automotive industry has fully entered a phase of intelligent mobility. We are in the midst of it and can only seize the opportunity of industrial transformation if we adopt new thinking, an innovative mentality and an open mind," said Kai Yu, founder and CEO of Horizon Robotics.
