Renault speaks of revolution

Renault is putting itself under ex-Seat boss Luca de Meo new on. New business areas are supposed to fix it, there is talk of a transformation. A lot of screws are being turned: new models, streamlining here, expansion there. Two aspects are interesting and quite questionable. First: Investments should decrease in percentage terms. At a time when half the auto industry is complaining that they can't keep up with the innovative power of the tech giants, they are putting the brakes on research and development. Second: Renault is presenting a prototype of a new edition of the cult model Renault 5 for the new era. Looks smart.
But how does it fit together that the car manufacturer stands up and says, I am rethinking mobility, becoming a multi-layered tech company and then showing a recomposition of a car from the 1970s as the leading figure? Wouldn't it have been braver to present a completely new type of vehicle? So it seems like you want to tackle a lot of new things, but don't want to leave the familiar path. I have my doubts about whether this will make Tesla and Co. sleep poorly.
