Renault Captur Initiale Paris: City SUV with chic
Feel
Whether it's the leather-covered steering wheel, the door panels or the leather-upholstered seats - with the Initiale Paris equipment, the Renault Captur looks significantly more high-quality than its basic model. The powerful Bose sound system and the large 17-inch models turn the high-profile city car into a lifestyle device. Not least because of the two-tone paintwork with the light roof in platinum gray. Nevertheless, there are also somewhat thinner, hard plastic panels in the interior, which spoil the overall impression somewhat.
Drive
The 1.5-liter diesel engine (Energy dCi 110) produces 110 hp and 260 Newton meters of torque and transmits this directly to the front wheels. Shifting is done via a manual 6-speed box, the gears of which slide through the shift gates quite smoothly. It's not a fast-paced car, but the 110 hp isn't enough for that. But the torque is available early, as is typical for diesel engines, which means that the Captur can be moved easily and smoothly. Thanks to the low curb weight of just under 1.3 tonnes, the SUV can be thrown around corners precisely and easily. If it gets too colorful, all kinds of driving aids will slow you down and keep the Captur safely on track.
Load
In typical 5-seater operation, the Captur's trunk swallows 377 liters. If you push the rear seat all the way forward, there is 455 liters of space. If you go to Ikea to refurnish the place, you can load up to 1235 liters with the back seat folded down. Enough for everyday life. As a family with two children, things get rather cramped in the Captur.
Conclusion
Little blame but no hymn of praise either. Because once again, a new, modern car has no real weaknesses, but despite its neat appearance and good driving experience, the emotion falls by the wayside. It can do what it's supposed to do, it even looks better than it should, and it costs more, but in the end, in my memory, it was just a car like many others. Too bad.
