New car registrations: minus 9.1% in January 2020
In January 2020, 22,959 cars were newly registered. That is 9.1% less than in January of the previous year.

According to Statistics Austria, new registrations of gasoline-powered cars fell by 19.1% (share: 48.2%) and diesel-powered cars fell by 13.7% (share: 38.8%). Passenger cars with electric drives increased (+37.1%; share: 3.0%). The car brands with the most new registrations were VW (share: 16.9%), Skoda (share: 9.0%) and Seat (share: 8.8%). Among the top 10 brands, BMW (+20.0%), Mercedes (+17.2%), Hyundai (+7.9%) and Audi (+6.4%) recorded increases; the highest declines occurred at Ford (-33.1%), Opel (-32.3%) and Renault (-15.3%). When it comes to two-wheelers, fewer motorcycles (-12.7%) but more motorized bicycles (+50.8%) were registered.
