Pickerl” deadline extension decided
Drivers' clubs had demanded it, BIM Josef Harb had warned of "rolling bombs". On the evening of April 3, 2020, the National Council decided to extend the §57a tolerance period with the 4th Covid-19 Measures Act.

Pickerl” deadline extension decided
Specifically, it says: "In KFG 1 967 there are numerous deadlines (such as the recurring assessment according to § 57a, regular checks of tachographs, evidence of driving school training, expiry of desired license plates, . . . ) that cannot currently be met or can only be met with great difficulty. In some cases, reports or other evidence must be provided for their extension, which is currently not possible for the most part. So that no one suffers disadvantages from the current situation, a temporary extension of the validity and suspension of these deadlines for the duration of the impossibility, which is currently set as of May 31, 2020.” The regulation applies retroactively from March 14, 2020 and can be extended by regulation until a maximum of December 31, 2020. Federal Guild Master Josef Harb had urgently warned against this: extending the tolerance periods of currently four months for private cars and ZWR by at least another three months would be negligent. The §57a inspections in the past have shown that numerous vehicles did not receive a “sticker” due to serious defects. A grace period of 28 days to repair these defects was agreed with the vehicle owner. If all of these vehicles with serious defects that could quickly develop into defects in the “imminent danger” category are allowed to be used for a further three months, this would appear to be grossly negligent. Not just towards the vehicle owners of these “rolling bombs”, but for all road users. "The Austrian motor vehicle companies with the authorization to carry out the §57a inspection would have had sufficient capacity to carry out 'Pickerl' inspections."
