Peugeot Traveler: travel van with a sympathy bonus
Feel: A van is rarely attractive, more practical. The Peugeot Traveler in the tame aluminum gray appears visually rather inconspicuous. Tinted windows, slim wheels, well-behaved body edges. The interior matches the shell, and there are color accents only on the central infotainment display. The steering wheel is, as is typical for Peugeot, not super small but still compact for a van. The ergonomics in the front row are right; you sit comfortably in the electrically adjustable driver's seat, slightly elevated. If you tap on the plastic parts, it is a mixture of thin plastic and foamed, thicker plastic. The material appearance is completely fine.
Drive: At just under five meters long (4,956 meters to be precise), the Peugeot Traveler is pleasantly compact for a 7-seater. And at least 1.65 tons, it's not that heavy. The BlueHDI 150 S&S engine produces 150 good horses and a hefty 370 Newton meters of torque from a two-liter displacement. The torque in particular is already available at 2000 revolutions, which means that the diesel can be driven pleasantly powerfully from the lower revs. The 6-speed manual transmission therefore only needs to be stirred moderately often; the traveler can easily be moved without changing gears. The 150 HP is absolutely enough to provide you with propulsion at all times. But it's still a long way from being sporty. During normal driving, just over six liters of diesel per 100 kilometers pass through the combustion chambers. The Traveler is pleasant and active to drive when the going gets twisty. Despite the increased center of gravity and weight, the Traveler curves through the radii very precisely. The steering offers a surprising amount of feedback and the rolling movements are comparatively low for a family van. The chassis is comfortable but not buttery soft and the brakes are always in control of the Peugeot van. With a turning circle of just over 12 meters, you can also drive quickly through the city center.
Load: Up to seven people can travel comfortably in the Peugeot Traveler. The third row of seats can also be used by adults - not typical for every 7-seater. If all the seats are folded up, the Traveler still offers 507 to 655 liters of trunk volume. In four-seater operation, the volume increases to up to 1,600 liters. And if only the front bench is left inside, up to 4000 liters can be loaded. This means that just over 2.4 meters of loading length is possible on the ground. In short: The Peugeot Traveler can swallow a lot of luggage - if it has to.
Conclusion: The Peugeot Traveler is a practical family and/or business van that has a good, solid engine and active driving characteristics. The ergonomics and seating comfort are good, as is the loading volume. The look – inside and out – may be a bit sober, but overall the Traveler has done well.
