Partnership for hydrogen supply chain via the Port of Hamburg

Daimler Truck AG, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. have agreed a strategic partnership to explore the development of a European supply chain for green liquid hydrogen. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the end of October at the “Hydrogen Technology World Expo” trade fair in Hamburg.

As part of the cooperation, the logistical requirements for the import, transshipment and onward transport of liquid hydrogen via the port of Hamburg will be examined. The port could thus play a central role as a distribution hub for the European market. The partners also plan to involve other companies and institutions in a consortium along the entire hydrogen value chain.

The collaboration combines complementary competencies: HHLA brings its experience in logistics and port operations, Daimler Truck develops hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles and Kawasaki Heavy Industries has technological expertise in the production, transport and storage of liquid hydrogen.

With the initiative, the companies want to contribute to the development of a sustainable energy supply and advance the use of hydrogen in industry and transport.
