Austria is ready for e-mobility
The EV Readiness Index from fleet manager LeasePlan has now been published in its 5th edition. The study is being carried out in 22 European countries and shows how well the countries examined are prepared for the switch to electromobility. Three key factors are determined: the spread of electric vehicles, expansion of the charging infrastructure and the total cost of ownership (TCO) of electric vehicles. Conclusion: Norway remains in first place, the Netherlands is in second place and ex-aequo, alongside Great Britain, Austria is now also in third place, which has improved by two places compared to the previous year. The reason for this is the sharp increase in new registrations of electric vehicles last year and the significantly increased availability of charging infrastructure. With 33,366 electric cars registered in 2021, the number of new registrations has more than doubled compared to the previous year (15,972). Purely electric cars already make up 13.9% of all newly registered cars in Austria. The number of publicly available charging points also increased significantly last year. Drivers already have 115 fast chargers available for every 100 km of highway. However, compared to Norway with 780 fast chargers per 100 km of highway, there is still significant potential for improvement.
