The test results speak for themselves: Of the 16 models in different price categories that were checked, nine failed with the rating “not recommended”. Two tires achieved a “conditionally recommended” rating, five at least a “recommended” rating. ÖAMTC tire expert Friedrich Eppel: “We are dealing with a classic conflict of objectives in tire development: Many of the van tires tested are obviously designed for the longest possible service life and low fuel consumption.” The good to very good values in these areas come at the price of sometimes significant weaknesses in wet grip properties. The result is long braking distances and unstable cornering in wet conditions. This applies to varying degrees to all “C tires” in the test. Apollo Altrust, Goodyear Efficient Grip Cargo, Pirelli Carrier, Nokian cLine and Continental ContiVanContact 200 find the best compromise.
