A test by the ÖAMTC and its partners shows the strengths and weaknesses of current all-season tires in size 175/65 R14 T/H.

“Even if the result is better than in the larger size tested in 2016, the mobility club cannot make a general recommendation for all-season tires,” says ÖAMTC tire expert Friedrich Eppel, summarizing the test results. The all-season tires were tested on dry roads in summer, on wet roads in autumn and on snow and ice in winter. The criteria of rolling noise, fuel consumption and wear were also checked.
“Four of the nine test candidates, Nexen N blue 4Season, Continental AllSeasonContact, Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 and Nokian Weatherproof, were able to stand out a little from the competition in the test,” explains Eppel. The example of the Vredestein Quatrac 5 shows how big the differences are. “This tire was the only one that could keep up with a normal summer tire on dry roads, but it is one of the weakest on snow,” says the ÖAMTC expert. Conversely, the Firestone Multiseason is the weakest test candidate in dry and wet conditions, but on snowy roads it is comparable to winter tires.
