NoVA: reprieve for commercial vehicles

The standard consumption tax (NoVA) was increased on July 1st. A transition period for commercial vehicles was planned until November 1st, but is now to be extended until May 1st, 2022. The reason for this is that vehicle deliveries are currently taking a particularly long time. Commercial vehicles will become more expensive after the end of the transition period. However, many entrepreneurs have still ordered some in order to take advantage of the transition period. However, due to delivery times, they would now often look through their fingers.

The ÖVP and the Greens are now planning a corresponding initiative proposal in the Finance Committee on November 3rd. This can then be fixed in the plenary session of the National Council on November 19th. The extension of the transition period will come into effect retroactively after the decision, the ÖVP and the Greens confirmed in response to an APA request. Of course, the purchase contract must have been concluded in good time - before the NoVA increase comes into force.

“Due to acute, significant delays in the supply chains of the automotive industry, due, among other things, to the Corona crisis and bottlenecks in semiconductor production, vehicle ordering processes cannot currently be planned and processed with the necessary time security,” says the application submitted to the automotive industry. Under the acute circumstances, an extension of the delivery period of the transitional regulation is therefore necessary. The unchanged requirement that a purchase contract be concluded before June 1, 2021 ensures that the number of motor vehicles that fall under the transitional regulation does not increase due to the postponement of the delivery deadline
is increased, but only creates legal certainty for the existing sales contracts, is the reasoning. (apa/red)
